Girl We Love: Lucia Pineda
We spoke to Lucia about the things she loves doing when she's not exploring; where is her happy place and her take on slow and mindful travel. ๐
TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I am currently obsessed with breakfast food! Before lockdown, I never really had the chance to make myself a nice breakfast meal because I was always rushing or waking up late. Now, I make it a point to try out different healthy recipes to share with my family! A good meal first thing in the morning can lift your mood for the rest of the day.
WHAT ARE SOME ACTIVITIES YOU LIKE TO DO? WHAT KEEPS YOU BUSY WHEN YOUโRE NOT EXPLORING?
My favorite activities include indoor cycling, lifting weights, traveling, baking, playing with my dogs, and watching a whole lot of movies and TV shows! Ever since lockdown began, Perigon (the indoor cycling studio I teach in) has shifted from studio classes to Zoom/On-Demand classes.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT TRAVELING? WHERE IS YOUR HAPPY PLACE?
When traveling, I love being completely immersed in a different culture. Getting to know the unique beliefs of other nationalities, as well as their cuisines, personalities, and everyday life is very interesting to me. So far, from the places Iโve traveled to, my happy place has got to be New Zealand. I fell in love with the landscape full of greens, mountains, water, and snow. It was the first trip wherein I got to do so many adventurous things such as hiking, riding the worldโs biggest swing, riding a helicopter, exploring off-road trails on 4x4s, and more!
ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO EMBRACE SLOW TRAVEL AND HAVE MORE MINDFUL ADVENTURES?
WHAT ARE SOME WAYS TO HELP US BECOME MORE CONSCIOUS TRAVELERS?
To embrace slow travel, you need to get disconnected and learn to not always have to take pictures or videos of everything. Sometimes, the best experiences are the ones that arenโt documented at all! Take the time to relax, be grateful and immerse yourself in the culture respectfully.
WHERE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND A QUICK GETAWAY THIS YEAR?
ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A CLASSIC ROAD TRIP OR AN UNUSUAL (BUT NO LESS INSPIRING) PATH LESS TRAVELED?
I highly recommend going to Siargao. The first time I went there was back in 2019 and since then, my friends and I wanted to make it a point to go there at least once every year. Everyone on the island seems to know each other and are always kind enough to help tourists out. Donโt forget to go island hopping and try out surfing to truly get the feel of island life (and a good tan too)!
ANY ADVICE FOR FREE-SPIRITED WANDERERS WHO ARE STILL A BIT HESITANT TO GET BACK TO TRAVELING?
Due to the current situation, definitely be more conscious about where you go and the activities you are going to do there. It is possible to get back to traveling now, as long as you are smart about it. I would suggest traveling with a small group of friends and going on road trips to places not so populated for now.
WEโRE ALWAYS HAPPY TO HAVE YOU AT WINK! HOW DOES WINK HELP YOU WITH YOUR TRAVELS?
I travel to the beach quite often, so Wink always does a great job in keeping me clean and hairless for any swimsuit! I love how careful they are and how they always make sure to shoot me a text with helpful reminders even after my appointment.
