TELL US A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hello! Iโ€™m Denise and Iโ€™m a free-spirited writer and photographer. I am chronically clumsy with an incessant wanderlust to explore the worldโ€”Iโ€™m a Sagittarius so weโ€™re spontaneous, full of verve, and lovers of freedom and we try our best to inspire others to live their best lives. I have a penchant for art, literature, music, polaroids, postcards, and handwritten letters.

I have been in the marketing, advertising, and publishing industries for almost 11 years but I always find solace in writing for brands ERIKA DENISE or my blog Postcards from Denise, taking photos, doing something creative, or just going on adventures with my family, dogs and friends.๐ŸŒผ

TAKE US TO YOUR FAVORITE PLACE.

Destination: New York๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and Japan๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

Where to go:

New York: Visiting NYC felt like a dream and you can be anythingโ€”I almost moved there for work a few years ago!๐Ÿ—ฝ My sister and I spent a whole day walking around our fave city with no itinerary and we ended up stumbling upon movie film sets and tourist spots:

  • Central Park

  • Grand Central Terminal

  • Times Square

  • New York Public Library

  • Flat Iron

  • Fifth Ave

  • St. Patrickโ€™s

  • MET

We even saw David Schwimmer at Greenwich Village and we badly wanted to shout โ€œpivot!โ€.

Japan: It was winter the last time I visited Japan and I experience my first snowfall. The best places to go to when itโ€™s winter are:

  • Sapporo for its Snow Festival

  • Niseko for snowmobile and snowboarding

  • Kyoto for the cultural experience

  • Osaka or Tokyo for a glut of cafes, restaurants, shopping centers, parks, and tourist destinations.

What to do:

New York: Itโ€™s great to stop and smell the roses every once in a while, especially when traveling.

Visit MoMa in the morning and spend an afternoon at Washington Square Park to read, listen to buskers playing music, play with dogs at the park or grab food from nearby cafรฉs.

Go to Empire State Observatory Building at sunset to see a sweeping view of the city and it would always feel magical. Try night ice skating at The Rink located at Rockefeller Center too.

Japan: I am a beach bum but winter activities in Japan are so thrilling if you always love to try something new like me!

You can try snowboarding at Sapporo Teine Ski Resort or in Niseko. Snow Festival in Sapporo has light shows, a skating rink, an ice bar, illuminated ice sculptures, an interactive playground, and Hokkaido-specialty food markets. Mt. Moiwa also has the fortune bell and love padlocks.

Japan is dotted with beautiful parks where you can escape from the bustling areas of the city like Osaka Castle, Nara Park, Shinjuku Gyoen, Yoyogi Park, and Kinkakuji Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Sometimes, Tokyo also has light installations such as Mega Illumination and TeamLab Borderless at Odaiba. If you want to see the sunset over the city skyline, Tokyo Skytree is a great viewing deck.๐Ÿ—ผ

Where to eat:

New York: Since I love romcom movies, Serendipity III is an iconic place to get frozen hot chocolate! Donโ€™t forget to try Grimaldiโ€™s near Dumbo and Brooklyn bridge famous for their 100-year-old dough recipe. Some food recommendations are Eataly, Momofuku Milk Bar, Levain, Joeโ€™s Pizza, Papaya Dog, Peter Luger, and Dominique Anselโ€™s cookie shots.๐Ÿช

Japan: Japan has two of my favorite things in life: really good coffee and the freshest sushi. I recommend Verve Coffee, Saturdays NYC, or Blue Bottle for some cuppa โ˜•. The best place to taste the city is by going to the markets: Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, Kuromon Ichiba (near Dotonbori) in Osaka, and Nijo Fish Market in Sapporo.๐Ÿฃ

Where to stay:

New York: We stayed at Row NYC!

Japan: We stayed at Airbnbs in Osaka and Kyoto. For Tokyo and Sapporo, we picked hotels that are nearby the subway. For Niseko, we stayed at First Cabin.

Must-have adventure staple:

My camera and Winkโ€™s Laser Facial Pores & Pigment for a fun and fuss-free adventure! โœจ

ON THE HORIZON

You need some rest and relaxation, where would you go next:

While I love exploring other countries be it winter or fall, my favorite season is still summer in the Philippines! I would often plan a quick weekend getaway by the beach to surf, scuba dive, or just chill. Batangas is just a two-hour drive away from our home and I am the happiest when I get to bring my family and our dogs for some fun under the sun! โ˜€๏ธ
