How to Embrace Spontaneity When Traveling, According to Keanne

This season, trade in your strict itinerary for a spirit of adventure! Keanne reveals how embracing spontaneity can lead to unforgettable moments and delightful surprises on your journey, no matter where your travels take you! 🚘👙

Hi, Keanne! Can you tell us more about yourself?

Hi there! I'm Keanne, a 22-year-old born and raised in Metro Manila. Growing up homeschooled, I spent most of my time playing football when I wasn't attending my weekly MAPEH class. Eventually, I realized that I had a knack for singing, which changed my life’s direction.

I decided to pursue music in both senior high school and college—and who knows? Maybe it’ll be my path for the next 80 years, too. I also like to keep this love of mine alive (and creativity too) by drawing inspiration from other interests, like being outdoors, spending time with loved ones, binge-watching a comfort TV show, freelance modeling, and enjoying the simple routine of making myself a matcha latte (with oat milk, of course).

Your three best places for spontaneous adventures:

  1. Tanay, Rizal — If we’re being realistic, Tanay, Rizal would be first on my list simply because of how accessible it is and how it feels like an escape from the city’s busyness. You get incredible views of mountains and some great coffee along the way. There’s also the option of camping or reserving a BnB near the falls.

  2. Baler — It’s quite a drive (approximately 6 hours), but as you get closer to the destination, you realize how worth it the trip is. The further you go, the more beautiful the scenery gets. I recall my trip last June, and I couldn’t help but think there are still untouched areas in our country—pure, lush, and non-urbanized.

  3. Batangas — I was deciding between this and La Union, but as I get older, I find that sometimes all you need is peace and a place to find solace. For me, that place has been Batangas over the last two years. There isn’t too much going on: just a house, a beach, and a sunset (and sometimes, scuba diving)!

What are your top tips for embracing spontaneous travel and enjoying it?

Be with people who make you feel safe being yourself.

This doesn’t mean you should only travel with your closest friends, but there are people you meet who make you feel at ease. These are the ones who aren’t judgmental, performative, or “mahirap makisama.” I’ve felt that anxiety of being with strangers, but once you open up, you might just foster the most beautiful and deep friendships.

Sometimes, you just have to book that trip and plan around it

I tend to overthink and over-plan, which ends up paralyzing me from actually doing something I really want to do. But my friends’ “Tara na! Okay na yan! Wag mo munang isipin yung mga kailangan natin; saka na yun!” approach has taught me to experience life beyond the four walls of my home.

Embrace the unexpected.

Since it’s a spontaneous trip, expect that things won’t go exactly as planned, and that’s perfectly okay. Sometimes, the best memories come from detours, mishaps, or last-minute changes. Go with the flow, be open to surprises, and enjoy the journey as it unfolds. The beauty of spontaneous travel lies in letting go of rigid expectations and enjoying each moment for what it is.

What are your 3 go-to travel essentials for feeling carefree and adventurous while traveling?

Water bottle

I have a bit of an attachment to my 2-liter water bottle and can’t go anywhere without it. I’m easily “nauuhaw,” so staying hydrated is essential for me. Drinking plenty of water has reduced my headaches, prevents my lips from getting flaky, and keeps my body balanced.

Wink’s Laser Whitening Treatment

Growing up, I’d always been conscious of the dark semi-circles under my eyes, but since I started Wink’s Laser Whitening Treatment, I not only look brighter but feel more energized too!

SPF

I admit I was late to the SPF craze, but since I started using it, I’ve noticed how much it protects my skin during outdoor adventures. Whether I’m hiking in Tanay, soaking up the sun in Batangas, or taking a long drive to Baler, SPF has become essential for keeping my skin healthy. Now, I can spend hours exploring without worrying about sun damage, which makes spontaneous trips feel carefree and more enjoyable.
