The Best Free-Diving Tips for Beginners According to Krez Igot

Dive into the depths of the ocean with Krez as she leads you through a thrilling excursion, offering her expert tips and tricks to welcome you into the world of free diving.🤿🧜🏻‍♀️

Hi, Krez! Can you tell us a little something about yourself?

I’m Kriza, but my friends call me ‘Krez’. I’m all about the ocean—it’s my happy place. I’m into all sorts of adventures that get my adrenaline going, like bungee jumping and canyoneering. Not a fan of cardio, but I’ll run if I have to, and do yoga when I have the time.

Ultimately, I love freediving. There’s just something about being underwater that brings me a unique sense of tranquility. It’s my kind of quiet, where I feel most free.

I enjoy singing along to Taylor Swift’s songs in the shower, although my family prefers I keep my performances private.😅

Traveling and exploring hidden corners is another thing I love. In a nutshell - I'm someone who loves to romanticize life and sing my heart out.💖

Tell us about your first free-diving experience. How was it?

My first freediving adventure started with a TikTok video that caught my eye. I'll admit, it was a mix of nerves and excitement when I first started. The open water can be intimidating, and seeing the depths up close did nothing to calm my jitters. But I was determined, and after a few attempts, I got the hang of duck diving. Surfacing after that first successful dive, I felt an incredible rush of fulfillment. It was like being introduced to a secret world, serene and full of life, right beneath the waves. It's a world that's always been there, but only now have I truly seen it.

Any advice you would give to someone who would be planning their first free dive, what are 3 things they should always consider?

• Learn freediving from a certified instructor, they will not only teach you how to move gracefully underwater, but more importantly, they will teach you how to dive safely. Freediving can be dangerous if not done correctly.

• Always prioritize safety over depths,  and remember the most important rule in freediving - never dive alone. The freediving community is vibrant and welcoming, so you can always find a diving buddy or invite your friends to join you.

• Lastly, when you’re starting out in freediving, remember to enjoy the experience and be responsible towards marine life. Admire the beauty of the underwater world, but refrain from touching or disturbing the marine life.🐠🐙

What are your top 3 essentials for an enjoyable and carefree free-diving experience?

• Relaxation - I prioritize relaxation and sometimes meditate before diving. A calm mind and body significantly enhance the freediving experience.

• Equipment Preparation - I plan and prepare my underwater equipment in advance. Visualize my movements and poses to make the most of my underwater adventure.

• Personal Care Treatment - ultimately, I visit Wink for a laser treatment to address my skin concerns, such as dark knees. This helps me boost my confidence to enjoy my freediving experience without any self-consciousness especially when doing awra shots. 🌊🤿🌺

Your dream free-diving spot(s).

For me, the Maldives tops the list. I can picture myself gliding alongside mantas and nurse sharks, dancing with dolphins, and tracing the paths of stingrays. The Great Barrier Reef and Hawaii’s Manta Ray Haven are also on my list, I would love to visit these wonders and live out my mermaid dreams.🧜🏻‍♀️🌴

How does Wink help you stay worry-free on free-diving trips?

Wink has been a game-changer for my freediving trips. Their laser treatments work wonders on any dark spots, giving me that even-toned skin that looks amazing in and out of the water. This peace of mind allows me to enjoy the dive and capture stunning photos without worry, ensuring I’m always ready for that perfect Instagram shot. With Wink, I’m free to focus on the beauty of the ocean, confident that I look and feel my best.📸👙
