The Best Thing About Traveling With Your Child

Travel can be an enlightening and eye-opening experience for children of all ages. A vacation at the beach or even a quick stroll around the neighborhood allows us to spend quality time together.

Read as Marika, certified beach-lover shares the most important discoveries and valuable lessons on her travels with her daughter, Blanca.

How did having a baby change the way you travel? 

Before Blanca, we used to plan trips and book the cheapest, red-eye flights just weeks or even days before. But now, we have to choose the ones that would fit her schedule the most (cause I’m the type of mom who is really concerned about that).

What is the best thing about traveling with Blanca?

I love bringing Blanca to new places, making new memories as a family, seeing things, and going to places for the first time together. The sound of Blanca’s laughter and her reactions are priceless.

I can’t even think of traveling without her anymore. Her smiles and contagious happiness make everything so worth it. 

Any valuable lessons learned through your new travel experiences?

I learned to really savor and enjoy every single moment I spend with my family. Traveling with Blanca also taught me to put her needs and happiness before my own, making sure she’s comfortable and safe.

Can you give us some tips and travel hacks for those traveling with kids?

• Plan ahead. And I mean, months ahead if possible. Pack at least a week before, and make sure you have a list of what you need, so you won’t forget anything.  

• If traveling internationally or going on a long-haul flight, choose overnight flights so your kid can (hopefully) sleep, or choose flights that wouldn’t cause much jetlag.

• Make sure your itinerary is flexible and doesn’t make your kid too exhausted. 

• Bring LOTS of snacks and prepare for activities!

My husband, Luigi, and Blanca LOVE the beach, so Boracay or Panglao would be the first on our list. Before the quarantine happened, we were supposed to go to LA, but that’s pushed for next year instead.
