How To Create Great Travel Moments With Your Kids
Sea breezes, sunshine, the gentle sound of waves - these are a few of Mayumi and her son, Nicholas’ favorite things.
Find out how Mom Mayumi’s travel tips and learnings can inspire you, and help you make memorable travel adventures with your kids.
How did having a baby change the way you travel?
Who would have thought that a baby so small can occupy so much luggage space for baby needs? From diapers, bottles, cleaning tools, sterilizers, milk, food, clothes, toys, stroller, you name it! My husband gets surprised that our baby needs his own big luggage, it’s so funny!
For two and a half years, it has been a challenge to carry him and his immediate needs while traveling. Thankfully whenever we visit new places, Nichola’s grandma is always there to help us. So let me take this opportunity to thank her, Mama, salamat po for staying with me as I learn and discover new things about motherhood.
What is the best thing about traveling with Nicholas?
The best thing about traveling with my son is seeing his reactions to all our new experiences with nature. Hearing him say 'I'm not afraid anymore Mama. I love the waves!' Witnessing him gain the courage to face new things, that to me is priceless.
Any valuable lessons learned through your new travel experiences?
Time flies so fast, every single moment counts. In years, he will be older and he’ll have his own priorities, activities, and schedule. I learned that I should take him wherever I go and together, see as much as we can of the world. I also think it’s important to give him a lot of good childhood memories to look back to once he's an adult.
Can you give us some tips and travel hacks for those traveling with kids?
Listen to your child and acknowledge his feelings. If he says he is tired, don't say 'No you're not tired. You just woke up.' Or when he says he's not happy, don't say 'You should be happy, we're traveling.' Instead, respond something along these lines, 'Oh, you're feeling tired? You're not happy? How come? What’s wrong?' Understand your children better by letting them express their feelings through sincere communication. This way, your kids will be more comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.
Share a place you and Nicholas would be visiting once it's safe to travel again.
We look forward to visiting an island close to Bali. It's called Lombok.
We can’t wait to get you ready on your next adventure, once our doors reopen! What are you most looking forward to on your next Wink visit?
Before heading out to my next island adventure, I look forward to being pampered at Wink Studio, Powerplant branch because I like their very friendly, accommodating, and professional staff. My skin needs that kind of care and lovin’!
